of UK businesses with 10 or more employees now use AI, up from 12% in late 2023. The question is no longer whether. It is how well.
cite lack of expertise as the top barrier, the most common answer given. Most firms close the gap by training the people they already have.
the day the RICS responsible AI standard became mandatory for regulated surveying firms in 2026. Professional duties now extend to the tools you use.

How we deal
Every price is published, on this page, before we ever meet.
Taught on your real work, at your desks, never from slides.
If AI will not pay its way on a job, you are told so, for free.
We never sell to the councils Tom answers to. Stated up front.
Claims get evidence behind them, or they do not get made.
Services
Start free, buy a fixed-price product when you are ready, keep us only if the numbers work. Nothing here is a lecture: every session runs on your documents, your processes, your tools.
An open surgery. Bring one real problem, leave with a working answer.
Up to 12 people, hands-on with your actual work. Tools set up, habits started, before we leave the room.
A deeper build: morning of capability, afternoon applied to your workflows or classrooms.
Policy, templates, risk register and training built for your profession's rules. Details below.
Where AI genuinely pays in your business, where it does not, and the order to do it in. Written, costed, yours.
We come back every month and make it stick: new use cases, refreshers, measurement against hours saved.
Your part-time head of AI: strategy, vendor calls, delivery and governance, without the salary.
Sector packs
Free introductions to AI are everywhere. What nobody local offers is the sector layer: the policies, safeguards and training your regulator now expects. Fixed price, delivered in days.
The RICS standard on responsible AI use has been mandatory for regulated firms since 9 March 2026. This pack gets a practice compliant and capable in one engagement.
Courts have already sanctioned lawyers over AI-fabricated citations, and competence duties extend to the tools your fee earners use. Capability and safeguards in one pack.
From proposal drafting to working paper summaries, AI is already in your competitors' workflows. This pack embeds it with client data safeguards in place from day one.
Staff are already using AI, with or without a policy. This pack turns that into safe workload reduction, aligned with DfE guidance on generative AI in education.

The back of the envelope
Slide the numbers to match your team. This is your arithmetic, not our promise: whether AI can win any of it back in your business is exactly what the audit answers, honestly.
Wages plus overheads, roughly. Assumes 46 working weeks a year.
Hours on repetitive admin, per year
1,380 hrs
Roughly £30,360 of paid time
If even a fifth came back
£6,072 a year
Illustrative arithmetic from the numbers you set, nothing more. No tool wins time back by itself. The audit (£1,950, fixed) tells you what is realistic for your firm, and if the honest answer is "not much yet", that is the answer you get.
Coming this autumn
Lancastrians taught the basics of AI. One per cent of the county.
Finland taught 1% of its population the basics of AI and changed how a whole country talks about technology. No one has done it here. Lancashire goes first: free sessions in libraries and community centres, employers pledging to train their staff, and a public counter that only ever tells the truth.
Pledge your workplace earlyHow it works
Tools change every month. The method does not. Every engagement, from a single workshop to a fractional role, runs the same three-step arc.
Find where AI genuinely pays in your organisation, and where it does not. Real workflows, real numbers, honest answers, including "not yet".
Train your people on their own work, set the tools up properly, build the habits. Adoption is a behaviour change problem, not a software problem.
Policies, safeguards and measurement, so the gains survive staff turnover, satisfy your regulator, and show up in hours saved.
Being built now
Free AI basics for 15,000 Lancastrians, with employer pledges and a public counter. Pledge early above.
One real Lancashire firm per episode. What we changed, what it saved, measured and published, warts and all.
The county's practitioners, in one room in Burnley, comparing notes. No stage, no sales pitch, no badge scanners.
About
Lancashire AI is run by Tom Pickup, an AI and data specialist born, raised and based in Burnley. He builds and runs production AI systems daily: large-scale data platforms, automation pipelines and the same tools this page recommends.
Everything taught here is in real use, on real work, before it reaches a training room. No slideware, no futurology, and a standing rule: if AI will not pay its way on a job, you will be told so, for free.
The ambition is simple: make Lancashire the best place in the North to run a business with AI, one firm, one practice and one school at a time.
Tom PickupBurnley, Lancashire
Tom serves as an elected member of Lancashire County Council. For that reason Lancashire AI does not sell to, and will never bid for work from, Lancashire County Council or Burnley Borough Council while he holds office. Private businesses, professional firms, academy trusts and independent schools only. Clean lines, stated up front.
